CONCORD - The elderly Manchester man fatally stabbed to death on Sunday died of a knife wound to the chest, the state's Medical Examiners Office said on Thursday.
Manchester police responded to an apartment at 259 Chestnut St. after receiving a 911 call on Sunday around 5 a.m. When police entered the apartment, they found Vernon Hayford, 75, suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a hospital for treatment where he later died.
Carrie Drake, 54, is charged with one count of second-degree murder for recklessly causing Hayford's death by stabbing him. She is also charged with being a felon in possession of a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.
Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mitchell Weinberg also found that Hayford's manner of death was homicide, meaning he was killed by another.
Drake continues to be held without bail.
