NORTHWOOD - The victim of a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred in Northwood on Tuesday has been identified as 34-year-old Malcolm Burns. The incident took place at a residence at 534 First New Hampshire Turnpike.

Burns' autopsy revealed that he died of a single gunshot wound to the abdomen, and the manner of death was homicide, which means he was killed by another person, according to a Dept. of Safety statement released on Wednesday.
Police initially responded to the scene around 5:15 a.m. following a report of domestic violence between Burns and his father. When the responding officer arrived, he went inside the residence to respond to the call for service, during which time a physical altercation between the officer and Burns occurred. During the altercation, the officer used deadly force and fired at Burns, who died at the scene.

The investigation by the New Hampshire Department of Justice and the New Hampshire State Police Major Crimes Unit is ongoing. The identity of the officer using deadly force will not be disclosed until a formal interview takes place in the next 5 to 10 business days.
