NORTH LEBANON - A Lebanon man sustained serious burns to his face when medical oxygen being used to help him breathe flared as it came in contact with a cigarette he was smoking.
Tubing apparatus into his nose melted and the man, said to be in his 60s, received burns to his face and head, according to a Lebanon Rescue press release.
He was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment.
Medical oxygen should never be used in proximity to a lighted cigarette as it is highly flammable.
The State Fire Marshals Office was notified and will investigate the incident.
No other personal information about the victim was released.
