OLD TOWN, Maine - A Maine man was arrested Friday night after he was spotted going south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95.
Police got involved after receiving several reports around 6 p.m. for a wrong way driver traveling south on the northbound side of I-95 in the area of mile marker 205.
A Maine State Trooper then took up a position at mile marker 197, but the subject vehicle evaded the trooper and continued south. prompting the trooper to continue the pursuit.
According to a Dept. of Safety press release sent out Saturday, the pursued vehicle then took the Route 197 on ramp the wrong way.
A short time later the trooper was able to meet the vehicle and utilized his cruiser to immobilize the wrong way driver, who was identified as 60-year-old Eric Nicolar of Indian Island. Nicolar was arrested and taken into custody, transported to the Penobscot County Jail and charged with Operating Under the Influence, Driving to Endanger and Failure to Stop.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to damage, however no one was injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
