GREENLAND - A Maine man going more than 70 miles an hour over the speed limit was arrested early Saturday for reckless operation and alcoholic beverage by a minor.
The incident unfolded around 2:45 a.m. when a state trooper observed a 2021 Nissan Armada traveling at a high rate of speed along Interstate 95 North in Greenland.
After the trooper confirmed the speed of the Nissan at 137 mph in a 65 mph zone, they initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the operator as Darryl Germain, 20, of Portland.
During the traffic stop, the trooper noticed an open bottle of an alcoholic beverage in the backseat of the vehicle, which was later seized as evidence. Germain was taken into custody and charged with reckless operation and transportation of alcoholic beverages by a minor.
Germain was released on personal recognizance bail pending an appearance in the 10th Circuit Court - District Division - Portsmouth on Dec. 19.
