People who know me will tell you I can be a very persistent fellow.
I want to take that persistence to Augusta to fight for the residents of Lebanon, Acton and Shapleigh as the next state representative for the new House District 20.
I will do whatever is in my power to help lower utility and heating bills in a state that pays the second-highest utility rates in the country.
I recently watched on network TV as a Midwesterner lamented it was costing him $8 a day to heat his home.
Heck, there’s days I’ve had to go to the gas station to pick up $20 worth of diesel to keep my family warm for a day.
When a fierce wind is blowing and the mercury’s below zero, it’s nothing to have a boiler suck down five gallons in a day.
Our severe dependence on heating oil is crippling our quality of life with its exorbitant prices that most Mainers just can’t afford.
I will do whatever is in my power to help little Addy Patrick of Acton get the medical marijuana she needs to reduce her seizures, without having to break the law or move to Colorado. Read Addy’s story here.
The medical marijuana that has been proved effective in reducing epileptic seizures that the parents of Little Addy are seeking to procure for their daughter has virtually none of the chemical in pot that gets users high, and is high in the ingredient that has been found to reduce seizures.
Marijuana is decriminalized in Portland and medical marijuana is available throughout the state to practically anyone, yet this little girl’s parents, a Sanford schoolteacher and a city worker for the town of Somersworth, have to either break federal law or move to Colorado so their daughter can get this marijuana strain, which has been called a wonder drug.
I am not saying marijuana should be made legal or marijuana is OK, but I am saying that Addy and her parents need our help. When you’re a Mainer, you help your neighbor. That’s what I intend to do.
I will do whatever in my power to stop welfare fraud and cheats who use taxpayer money to go to the casino or bars or places they and their taxpayer money don’t belong.
One out of seven Americans are on food stamps. Some seven or eight percent are unemployed. A record number of children are on free school meals.
This is not the time for us to be turning a blind eye to welfare cheats who overtax the system and cause our taxes to go up when there are so many who legitimately need our help.
I’m not looking to go to Augusta to hobnob with the hoi polloi. I’m looking to go to Augusta to fight for you.
You tell me what you want. I’ll listen. I’ll fight.
I’m a proud Republican. I think Gov. Paul LePage is doing a huckuva job.
But I’m not afraid to reach across the aisle, when it’s in the best interest of the people of Lebanon, Acton, Shapleigh and the great state of Maine.
I hope you’ll join me. I need your help.
