LEBANON - Just three months after Lebanon Fire and EMS signed a mutual aid pact with Milton, it is very close to implementing another such agreement with neighboring North Berwick, Lebanon Fire and EMS Chief Dan Meehan said on Friday.
"The agreement is almost done, " Meehan said. "We are adding in a few streets on the Lebanon side."
The agreement is expected to be reviewed by North Berwick and Lebanon rescue departments next week after which it will be sent to Sanford Regional Dispatch for inputting.
Lebanon and Milton enacted their first-ever mutual aid EMS pact in mid-October.
Meehan also announced he hopes to have Lebanon's EMS services back working at the paramedic level by March.
Lebanon Fire and EMS has had a paramedic working for some time, but he is working as an EMT Advanced, because for many months now the department has not had the necessary equipment to run at the paramedic level.
Meehan said the department is in the process of identifying and acquiring the items needed to do so, including having narcotic boxes wired and IV pumps installed in each of the town's two ambulances.
He said once the equipment is installed he'll be calling Maine EMS so they can inspect the apparatus and hopefully recertify the town to the paramedic level.
