Maine State Police and Rochester Police continue to probe robberies in Rochester and Lebanon that may have come at the hands of former fugitive from justice Timothy Wayne Smith who was captured earlier this month after a couple of months on the run.
Smith, a former Rochester resident, is suspected in at least two robberies in Lebanon, according to Maine State Police Trooper Jon Heimbach.
Smith was captured in Manchester, N.H., on Oct. 1 after U.S. Marshal’s alerted the media and public that he was a wanted man a few days earlier.
Heimbach said on Monday that in the Lebanon robbery he was investigating a number of guns, including handguns and rifles, had been stolen. He did not confirm whether or not they had been recovered.
U.S. Marshal Jeffrey White said none of the firearms were recovered during Smith’s apprehension, which occurred without incident.
Rochester Police Capt. Paul Toussaint, meanwhile, said last week his department continues to investigate a number of town robberies to determine whether Smith may have been involved.
Smith was on parole after being convicted of receiving stolen property when he ceased contact with his parole officer last August.
