DOVER - Lawton Chandler Allen died on Nov. 26, 2023, at the age of 92 in Dover. Lawton was born on March 11, 1931, in Goffstown.
Lawton was a man of boundless energy and enthusiasms. He was married for 56 years to Alyce Anne O'Brien and together they had four children. He was a Korean War veteran, graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in business management, and enjoyed a lifelong career with General Electric as a sales engineer. He and his family were able to live all around the United States and in each place he embraced the opportunities available.
Whether skiing Tuckerman Ravine, driving and repairing tractors, riding horses or driving boats (frequently into misadventures!), or learning how to stick a screwdriver into an air filter to open a carburetor, Lawton loved his family and taught them how to savor life!
Lawton and Alyce loved to travel and enjoyed regaling family and friends with tales of driving down the narrow roads of Ireland, and being a victim of the great Russian ruble ripoff - it was all a grand adventure to him!
Lawton also received a masters degree in business from Xavier University in Cincinnati, was honored by being inducted into the Kentucky Colonels, retired from General Electric, and then started the next chapter of his life, pursuing the wily trout and hitting the snowmachine trails in Rangeley, Maine, where he lived for many years. He was also part of the Sugarloaf mountain ski ambassador group, where he made many friends with whom he enjoyed both sunny and snowy days on the slope and a cold beer after a hard day!
Lawton is predeceased by his wife, Alyce Anne O'Brien, and is survived by his four children; Kathleen and Allan Cawrse of York, Maine; Rebecca Anctil of Rochester; Michael and Katherine Allen of Dumfries, Va; and Matthew Allen of Niceville, Fla. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his partner, Jo-An Armstrong, with whom he enjoyed the last 13 years of his life.
