BARRINGTON - Kenneth C. Bowlen, 79, of Barrington, died on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017 following a brief illness at Wentworth Douglas Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.
Kenny was born on Sept. 4, 1938 in Haverhill, Mass. and grew up in Portsmouth, N.H. with his parents, Kenneth J. Bowlen, Florence (Lemerise) and his younger brother Wayne.
Kenny graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1956. He majored in Political Science at UNH, graduating in 1960. After graduation he began his teaching career in Lebanon, Maine for one year and then he moved to the Wentworth School in Portsmouth, within the community he grew up. His students and co-workers became a second family to him. After the Wentworth school closed, Kenny transitioned to the Little Harbor School. He retired from the Portsmouth School System with a total of 38 years as an educator.
In 1968 Kenny married Priscilla A. (Brown), of Strafford, N.H., and moved to Barrington in 1969 where they resided for over 48 years where they raised their two children, Christopher and Amy.
Kenny was an avid High School and Collegiate level sports fan. He knew team stats, team colors and what each school's fight song was. He loved to garden, read and watch his family's sporting and musical events. Kenny loved to spend time at the family beach cottage in Maine and he loved keeping in touch with his former students. His quick wit and sense of humor was legendary.
Kenny was pre-deceased by his parents and in-laws, his beloved wife Priscilla, as well as some dear friends and family.
He is survived by his son Christopher Bowlen and wife Danielle and their sons Jackson, Tyler and his wife Paige, and Adam, all of Rochester. His daughter Amy and her husband Andy Gelinas and their children Alison of Barrington, Katelyn, Daniel and Andrew. He is also survived by his brother Wayne Bowlen and his wife Patricia, their children Casey and wife Bethany, Regan and husband Walter House all of Portsmouth. He is also survived by his wife's family as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and great grandchildren.
