SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Our beloved "Jeanne" Herrick died on Nov. 11, 2024. Born Jeanette Marie Herrick on Nov. 5 (29 or so years ago), to the late Charles and Esther (Proctor) Herrick in Henniker, N.H. Jeanne went to hairdressing school after graduating high school. However quickly decided it was not for her. Her passion was in helping people. After earning her Nursing Degree (LPN) she worked at Frisbie Memorial in Rochester, N.H., as an ICU/surgical nurse and later head nurse at Mainstay Nursing Home in Sanford. In her early 40s she went back to school to earn her BS in Criminal Justice. She proudly worked at the Bail Project in Portland assisting low level offenders avoid jail time by helping them find the personal and vocational resources to turn their lives for the better and reintegrate themselves into society.
She was passionate about her role in this program she helped develop to give them a second chance. FInally being a DEEP instructor for many years in York County. Throughout her life she had a passion for the plight of the American Indians. Working on the Passamaquoddy Reservation in Maine and at the Mashantucket Pequot Reservation in Connecticut was one of her proudest achievements. Practicing as a Probation Officer for many years. Truly a public servant working to better the people in her community. She was a small person with a large zest for life. She did nothing small, except standing at 4'11". A large personality made apparent by the love of animal prints, gaudy glasses, bold scarves, unique vehicles, and special attention paid to her wild hair. She thoroughly enjoyed what life had to offer... good music, cream with a little coffee and spending quality time with loved ones.
Jeanne joins her parents Charles & Esther (Proctor) Herrick, siblings Harvey Herrick & Leona Henderson, son Keith Gilpatrick, Jr., and grandson Harold "Harley" Cole II. She is survived by brother John Herrick of Bellevue Washington, children Melissa Gallant of Sanford and Corinna Cole of Lebanon. And many, many dearly beloved Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews and friends. Special Thanks to the Staff and Residents at Berwick Estates in South Berwick Maine for their kindness and the amazing care they provided for Jeanne. It was a wonderful place to spend her final years.
