ROCHESTER - Police are looking for the public's help in trying to determine who was at fault in Tuesday's accident near the Spaulding overpass on Farmington Road after both drivers in the crash claim the other ran a red light causing the collision.
When police arrived shortly after the accident was called in at 1:45 p.m., they found two vehicles with heavy front-end damage at the intersection of Farmington Road and where the Spaulding Turnpike's Exit 15 Southbound spills onto Farmington Road, also known as Route 11.
At the scene officers learned that David Gale, 48, of Somersworth, N.H., was driving a Toyota T100 westbound on Farmington Road while Richard Niles, 55, of Rochester, was operating a Ford F150 and had just exited the Spaulding Turnpike at exit 15.
The vehicles collided as they entered the intersection, police say, but that's where the investigation stalled as both men claimed they had green lights.
Niles was attempting to turn left off the exit ramp, heading back toward Home Depot and the city's downtown.
Toyota T100 was traveling west on Farmington Road, toward Walmart. |
With no intersection cameras at this particular stoplight, police are now left in the dark as they seek to find out what really happened.
Gale and an adult passenger were both transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital by EMS for what were described as nonlife-threatening injuries. Both vehicles sustained extensive front end damage and were towed from the scene.
Police say neither alcohol nor speed appear to have played a role in the crash.
However, if anyone saw the accident or thinks they could shed any light on what caused it, they are asked to contact Officer Brandon Kimbrough at 603-330-7127.
