State Police in New Hampshire and Maine will be participating in the "Driving to Save Lives Campaign" along Interstate 95 today.
This weekend-long effort is in conjunction with all State Police agencies along the Eastern Seaboard from Florida to Maine, and is being coordinated by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Throughout the weekend extra patrols will be assigned to Interstate 95 in marked and unmarked cruisers.
The purpose of this effort is to increase highway safety and reduce fatal crashes,
by focusing on speeding, distracted drivers, impaired drivers and aggressive
driving habits.
This campaign is similar and being run parallel to "Operation Safe Commute" which was implemented several years ago by New Hampshire State Police.
Safety officials say the effort won't be successful without the help of the public and its willingness to work with law enforcement and follow the guidance provided through the "Driving Toward Zero Campaign," which they consider the most effective tool in reducing fatal crashes and improving motorist safety.
