HOPKINTON - New Hampshire State Police arrested a Lebanon man on DUI and felony reckless conduct charges after he was found driving the wrong way on Interstate 89 early this morning.

The incident unfolded around 12:42 a.m. when State Police received reports of a vehicle driving in the wrong direction on Interstate 89 in Hopkinton. The vehicle was reported to be driving southbound in the northbound lanes. Troopers responded to the area immediately and were able to locate the vehicle near Exit 5 where they set up a rolling roadblock in order to prevent northbound traffic to continue into the path of the wrong way driver.

Trooper Kenneth McGrath was able to deploy stop sticks that successfully deflated both tires on the driver's side of the vehicle, but vehicle continued southbound.

Other Troopers were then able to converge upon the vehicle and arrest the driver, who was identified as 26-year-old Robert McCullen of Lebanon.

McCullen was also charged with disobeying a police officer.

He will be arraigned at a later date at the Merrimack Superior Court.

If anyone has information regarding this incident, please contact Trooper Kenneth McGrath at 603-227-0088 or email at Kenneth.T.McGrath@dos.nh.gov.
