FALMOUTH - A flatbed carrying an excavator crashed into an Interstate-295 overpass on Saturday afternoon, reducing the northbound flow to one lane and stacking up southbound traffic due to gawking passers-by.

The crash occurred around 5 p.m. at the Tuttle Road overpass and snarled traffic for about an hour before the roadway could be cleared.

Maine DOT crews are scene to inspect the bridge.

Scrape marks show where the excavator struck.

There were no injuries.
