Porters Pitching Wedge Salad (Rochester Voice photo)

ROCHESTER - I had never heard of a pitching wedge salad until Friday evening when I dropped by Porter's, aka Porter's Pub, for a quick bite..
The place was packed, but I was able to grab a stool at the bar.
Not wanting something heavy, I checked out the salads and found the pitching wedge, which came with blue cheese dressing, grape tomatoes, and bacon bits.
When it came out less than 10 minutes I was surprise to see the iceberg lettuce was not broken up but in my bowl in a massive single uncut piece.
It looked like a whole head of lettuce, but it was just a half a head, he said.
I grabbed a fork and steak knife and went to work, cutting up some of the lettuce to which I added a tomato or two along with a slather dressing was laden with bacon bits.
And voila. A really nice taste sensation that was accented with the dressing which was very thick with no shortage of chunks of blue cheese.
It's not unusual for me to get a salad that I find lacking in the proper amount of dressing for a salad.
Not so at Porter's.
I found the salad delightful with plenty left over for a salad the next day.

Quite reasonable at $11.99.
