ROCHESTER - Harry E. Libby Jr., 84, died on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Rochester Manor. Born on April 19, 1938 in Portland, Maine, Harry was the son of Harry E. Libby, Sr. and Eleanor (Chase) Smith.
From a very young age, Harry was known for his work ethic, and sometimes his stubbornness as well, and at the age of 17, he joined the Marine Corps. Following his service, he went on to hold several different jobs. He owned and operated his own landscaping company. He also worked for Prime Tanning, Mercy Hospital and Waste Management.
Where Harry really preferred to be though was out on the water. He was a true fisherman, and this skill even passed down to his children. Harry could often be found out on Big River or Isinglass River. He was also passionate about boxing and often told stories of his matches from back in the day. He enjoyed his annual trips to the Boxing Hall of Fame in New York up until 2020.
Harry was an active member and Treasurer of AA for 20 years and formed many lifelong relationships through the program. He also sponsored a girl from Indonesia from the time she was 4 until she turned 18 last year. Her name is Norul Aini.
Though he had an interesting way of showing it at times, Harry was a very loving father and grandfather. He loved time spent with his family, either out fishing and camping or at the Rochester Opera House enjoying a Doo Wop Concert.
Surviving Harry are his children, Gail Ashton, Eleanor Mayo, Harry E. Libby III, Randy Libby, Jeanine McCarty, Christine McInnis, and Allison Libby; 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
