ROCHESTER -- A new handicap-accessible kayak and canoe launch has been installed along the Cocheco River at Hanson Pines.

The launch, part of a Riverwalk revitalization project, allows for anyone with mobility issues or confined to a wheelchairs to safely board their kayak or canoe and enter the water.

A easy to follow sign instructs kayakers and canoeists how to enter the water safely.

"We hope that all can enjoy this beautiful section of the Cocheco River in Hanson Pines," read a statement on the Rochester Riverwalk Facebook page..

The launch was funded from a community development block grant and private donations.

Riverwalk Committee chair Stacey Marchionni urged launch users to be respectful of neighbors.

The launch has a limited parking area, but overflow parking is available at Rochester Community Center.
