ROCHESTER - A Gonic man who stabbed a teen sleeping in his own bed last March was given a minimum one-year jail sentence on Thursday.
Lashate Word, 21, of Gonic, agreed to plead guilty in exchange for the negotiated sentence.
Word entered the victim's apartment the night of March 28 and slashed his arms, midsection and legs, only stopping after the 19-year-old victim agreed to give him some marijuana. Before he left the victim bleeding, Word threatened him if he ever told police.
Terms of the negotiated plea include a one- to five-year prison term and a suspended three and a half to seven year prison term pending his good behavior for five years.
With almost 11 months in jail since the attack occurred, Word will be eligible for parole in about six weeks.
