Girlfriend nabbed in marijuana-growing operation

ROCHESTER -The girlfriend of a Rochester man arrested last week on charges of manufacturing a controlled drug was herself arrested on Monday on similar charges in connection with an alleged marijuana growing operation inside their city apartment.

Christy Hanscom, 29, of 7 Lafayette St., was bailed on $2,500 personal recognizance with a March court date scheduled.

Devon Smith, 22, of 7A Lafayette St., was arrested on Thursday and is being held on $10,000 cash bail.

Police were not immediately available to explain the different addresses given in separate press releases regarding Hanscom and Smith.

Smith is also charged with possessing a firearm with no serial number after police say the found Smith in possession of a sawed-off shot gun on which the serial number was obliterated.

Both drug charges are felonies, while the firearms charge is a misdemeanor.

Police visited the apartment after receiving a tip and later obtained the search warrant, according to a press release.
