Girl, 15, in critical condition after being struck by car in Sanford

SANFORD, Maine - A 15-year-old girl is in critical condition today after being struck by a car while walking across a Sanford street.

The accident occurred a little after 5 p.m. at the intersection of Island Avenue and High Street. Upon arrival officers found the teenager trapped under a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. She was extricated from under the vehicle by Sanford Fire personnel and transported by Lifeflight to Maine Medical Center in Portland where she is listed in critical condition.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
