LEBANON, Maine - Frederick H. Short, III, 70, of Lebanon, died on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H., after a period of failing health. Born in Brunswick, on December 23, 1947, he was a son of the late Frederick H. Jr., and Frances (Robertson) Short.
At an early age he and his family moved to the Seacoast area and made their home in Portsmouth, N.H., for a short time before settling in Eliot where he would attend local schools graduating the last class from Eliot High school in 1966.
He worked for a time at both the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Clarostat for a short time before continuing to operate Eliot Wood Company full time for over 50 years.
He married his loving wife Norma (Bond) Short on June 29,1991 and made their home and worked their business in Lebanon.
An avid out of doors man he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family four wheeling or gathering on Sunday for dinner or outside breakfast that he would make for everyone who came.
He is survived by his loving wife Norma J. Short; sons, Frederick H. Short lV, Robert Schaffer and his partner Cindy Wing, James Schaffer and his wife, Patricia Schaffer; daughters, Dawn Gerrato and her husband David Gerrato and Heather Schaffer, and her partner Will Shapleigh; grandchildren Troy, Griffin, Brandon, Joshua, Samantha, William, Nicholas, Joseph and Sara; as well as a brother John Short and his wife Ann of Acton; sister Delores White of York; brother in-law Ray Wares; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister Ethel (Short) Wares.
