SANBORNTON - A 50-year-old Franklin woman was seriously injured on Monday when the vehicle she was driving veered off Interstate 93 and crashed into trees in Sanbornton.
The accident occurred around 9:05 a.m. in the area of mile marker 63 southbound when a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and drove off the left side in the median, according to a State Police press release.
The operator was identified as Kristine Laroche, who suffered serious bodily injuries and needed to be extricated from the vehicle by fire and rescue personnel. Laroche was transported to Concord Hospital for her injuries, which were described as non-life threatening.
The force of the impact with a number of trees was so great that the engine block completely separated from the rest of the vehicle.
The left lane of I-93 South was shut down for around an hour while the scene was processed and the vehicle removed.
New Hampshire State Police Troop D was assisted on scene by the Sanbornton Fire and Rescue and the Sanbornton Police Department. The crash remains under investigation at this time and anyone that may have witnessed or has any information regarding this incident is asked to contact Trooper Brandon Rivard at Brandon.J.Rivard@dos.nh.gov.
