PORTSMOUTH - A former Portsmouth Police Officer was arrested on Friday in a November assault at a Fleet Street diner.

Police got involved around 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 22, when they responded to a reported fight at a diner on Fleet Street. Upon arrival, Portsmouth officers made contact with several subjects, including Aaron Goodwin, 45, of Eliot, Maine, a former Portsmouth police officer. Because Goodwin was formerly employed by the City of Portsmouth, Portsmouth Police requested assistance from the New Hampshire State Police to investigate the assault and all circumstances surrounding the incident.

As a result of a probe, arrest warrants were issued for Goodwin, Kevin Goodwin, 42, of Dundalk, Md., and Shannon Goodwin, 37, of Dundalk. The arrest warrants issued for Aaron Goodwin and Kevin Goodwin are for the charges of simple assault (Class A Misdemeanor) and disorderly conduct (Violation). The arrest warrant issued for Shannon Goodwin is for three counts of simple assault (Class A Misdemeanors) and disorderly conduct (Violation).

Aaron Goodwin voluntarily surrendered himself on Friday to the New Hampshire State Police. He was processed and released on personal recognizance bail with a court date scheduled for April 22 in Portsmouth District Court.
State Police are coordinating arrangements to take Kevin Goodwin and Shannon Goodwin into custody on their outstanding warrants.

Officers from the Portsmouth Police Department, analysts from the New Hampshire Information and Analysis Center, Troopers from the Maryland State Police and the Strafford County Attorney's Office assisted in the investigation.

All aspects of the incident remain under investigation. Anyone with information about this incident who hasn't already spoken with investigators is asked to contact Detective Sergeant John S. Kelly at john.s.kelly@dos.nh.gov or (603) 679-3333.
