WEST LEBANON - Firefighters from several different communities were fighting a brush fire today on Prospect Hill.
Firetrucks from Milton and Lebanon as well as Rochester are presently on scene after a second alarm was sounded to bring more manpower to remote, rugged terrain east of Prospect Hill Road.
Several residents in the neighborhood reported smelling smoke in the early afternoon hours, so much so that this writer notified Milton Fire as it appeared at first as though a plume of smoke appeared to be on the Milton side of the Salmon Falls River south of the Garage Way dam.
Firetrucks first arrived on scene around 4 p.m. and a Milton ATV was immediately dispatched into the area of a sand pit where kids often ride their dirt bikes and where some target practiciing takes place.
Fire personnel at the scene said a couple of acres may be involved, with the biggest challenge being getting water to the scene.
Firefighters from Farmington were also expected to arrive soon as well.
