Farmington teen to plead guilty in 2017 fatal shooting of Marine

DOVER - The Farmington teen indicted in the 2017 death of a Marine has accepted a plea deal and will be sentenced next month.

James Belyea, 17, is alleged to have fatally shot James "Jimmy" LaPrade, 33, a veteran of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, at his Oakwood Ridge home in Farmington on March 15, 2017.

Belyea shot LaPrade, a former platoon sergeant, in the head, according to court documents.

Belyea is alleged to have also shot his mother during the incident. She survived her injuries.

The plea deal was announced on Friday with sentencing set for June 17.

LaPrade who enjoyed skiing, hiking Mt. Major, sailing and motorcycle riding, worked as a power plant operator for Eversource in Newington, according to his obituary.
