Exeter motorcyclist killed, passenger injured in Dover crash

DOVER - An Exeter man was killed when his motorcycle crashed on the Spauldling Turnpike early Monday afteernoon.

The accident occurred around 12:50 p.m. in the southbound lanes where police say a 2013 Harley Davidson, driven by Jason Emerzian, 44, of Exeter, had been traveling south when he lost control of the motorcycle and struck the center median guardrail. The crash resulted in both he and his passenger being thrown from the motorcycle. Once separated from the motorcycle, Emerzian was struck by another passing vehicle.

Emerzian was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene. The passenger was transported to an area hospital for what were described as serious but nonlife threatening injuries.

Both southbound lanes of Route 16 were closed for approximately one hour while troopers investigated the scene.
