ROCHESTER - A bomb threat emailed to Rochester Middle School this morning forced its closure for the entire school day, according to the Rochester Schools Office.
Rochester Police first got word of the threat when a school employee called in around 6:40 a.m. and told them about the email, Rochester Police support Commander and Public Information Officer Andrew Swanberry said today.
Rochester Police then called in two K9 teams from the State Police bomb squad to assist in the search for any explosives inside the school.
When they met up at the school two teams conducted the sweep, with each team comprising a Rochester officer, a State Police bomb squad member and a canine. Police found no threats during their search.
School officials said in a statement that they made the decision to close the school out of "an abundance of caution"
"Putting students' and staff members' safety first, the Rochester School District closed the middle school for the day," Supt. Kyle Repucci said.
The nearby McClelland Elementary School remained open, according to personnel reached at the school's main office.
Meanwhile, Rochester Police are actively investigating all aspects of the case, Swanberry said.
