Elderly Maine couple's deaths ruled murder-suicide

AUGUSTA, Maine - The Office of Chief Medical Examiner has confirmed the deaths of an elderly Orrington couple were the result of a murder-suicide.

Russell and Lois Swanson, both 89, were found dead in their Orrington home around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office.

The husband and wife were discovered by a family member.

Police did not release who the shooter was.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and Evidence Response Team were called to help investigate the circumstances of the deaths.
