KITTERY, Maine - New Hampshire State Police are working with Maine State Police to investigate an incident that appears to have started with an adult male killing an adult female at a residence in Troy, N.H., overnight and then driving to the Piscataqua River Bridge on Interstate 95 at the Portsmouth, N.H. state line with Kittery.
Early this morning police engaged with the adult male on the bridge in an incident that ended with the male being fatally shot, according to a press release sent out around 7 a.m. today. The Maine Attorney General's Office is now investigating that officer-involved shooting incident.
According to the New Hampshire Attorney Generals Office, the unidentified man killed the woman at a home in Troy, N.H., overnight and then drove to the I-95 bridge.
The NH AG's office said police "engaged" with the man on the bridge and shot him.
Police on the bridge also found an 8-year-old child fatally shot in the male adult's vehicle. The exact circumstances surrounding this incident remain under active investigation.
The I-95 Piscataqua River Bridge has now been reopened, according to Maine safety officials.
