DOVER - Edward J. Ellis, 83, of Dover, died peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at Wentworth Douglass Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on July 31, 1941, in Dover to Frederick and Lillias (Bennett) Ellis.
A lifelong resident of Dover, Edward, or better known as Ed, was a man that did not like idle time. If he wasn't busy running his business, Ellis Brothers Inc., he was a family man with many passions. After retiring from his business, he went on to drive a bus for the Dover School system. When he decided to retire "for good," he would return to Dover High School daily to meet fellow bus drivers and play Euchre. You could also find him at the Elks, where he was a lifetime member.
From making sure there was enough wood to split, to restoring his Mustang, he was always on the go. Loved card games, especially euchre and cribbage, horseshoes and long walks. The only thing to slow Ed down was his annual 3-week vacation to York Beach each summer. Ed had a larger-than-life personality and will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
Ed is predeceased by the love of his life, Nora (Parent), his wife of over 56 years, his brothers Frederick and Harold Ellis and sister Marie Sargent. Survivors include son James (Molly) Ellis of Epping, daughters Mary Walsh of Dover and Loraine (Leslie Deveau) Ellis of Rochester; sister Rose Fogg of Rochester; grandchildren Zachary (Christine) Trefethen, Jacob (Nicole Grenier) Ellis and Jessica (Ryan Durant) Ellis; great grandchildren Cayden and Blake Trefethen, Makaila and Jacob Ellis, Norah and Harper Durant.
