ROCHESTER - Edgar Roberts, 86, loving husband of the late Dorothy Louise Roberts, passed away Friday, June 14, 2019 at the Rochester Manor surrounded by his children.
He was born May 15, 1933 in Rochester, the son of the late Harold and Simone Roberts. Ed honorably served four years of active duty in the Navy during the Korean War reaching the rank of Petty Officer, 3rd Class, and four years in the Naval Reserve. His career eventually led him to the U.S. Postal Service where he became Postmaster at the Gonic Post Office, retiring from that position in 1991.
Ed and Dorothy were married for 62 years. He is survived by their five children: Linda Roberts of Port Townsend, Wash.; Steve Roberts and wife, Tori, of Austin, Texas; Patti Chiburis and husband, Steve, of Upton, Mass.; Stephanie Adams of North Easton, Mass.; and Eric Roberts and wife, Beyonka, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and 11 grandchildren: Sayre and Eben Herrick; Jackson and Bella Roberts; Maren and Samuel Chiburis; Matthew, Brenna and Audra Adams; McKinley and Kasey Roberts. He is predeceased by his seven siblings.
Ed lived in Rochester his entire life and was known and loved by many. He had a great rapport with people and connected in a deeply personal way. Ed was also a consummate story teller and, in his childhood, he used his artistic talents to draw portraits and write and illustrate comic scenes.
Ed loved to bake and cook. He had a passion for growing trees and for his vegetable garden. He loved the fresh, clean, air of New Hampshire and living between the beaches and the mountains.
Above all else, Ed was completely devoted to his wife and children.
