Eastside man nabbed on habitual offender, drug charges after downtown traffic stop

ROCHESTER - An East Rochester man classified as a habitual offender was arrested on multiple charges on Monday after a traffic stop on South Main Street.

Michael J. Ditroia, 58, of 3 Warren St., Apt. #3, was stopped just before midnight in the area of D'Angelo's sub shop after he allegedly made an improper turn.

He was arrested on drug possession charges, as a habitual offender and cited for the improper turn.

Being a habitual offender is typically as a result of having three or more serious driving offenses (DWI, operating after suspension, conduct after an accident, negligent operation) in a five-year period.

Driving while being a habitual offender is usually a Class B felony punishable by up to seven years in prison.

In this arrest, Ditroia was charged with two Class B felonies, one for possession of what is thought to be cocaine and another as a habitual offender.

He was also wanted on a bench warrant for failure to appear on his habitual offender charge last fall.
