ROCHESTER - Dr. Joseph Bernard Johannes Wiegman, M.D., 84, formerly of Rochester, passed away in Auburn, Maine, on Nov. 16, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on October 7, 1929, in Terheijden, The Netherlands. He attended The University of Leiden Medical School where he received his medical degree. He married Wilhelmina Elders on November 23, 1957. He served two years in the Royal Dutch Navy with the rank of Lieutenant, then immigrated to the United States with his family in 1959. He completed an internship and residency at Worcester City Hospital before settling in Somersworth to practice family medicine from 1961 to 1980. After leaving private practice, Dr. Wiegman served as the Medical Staff Coordinator at Frisbie Memorial Hospital until retiring in 1999. He continued to serve as a volunteer in the Medication Assistance Program until 2005.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Church, St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish, for over 50 years.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Wilhelmina, seven children and their spouses, seventeen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was a lifelong avid photographer, documenting numerous family celebrations as well as the natural world, and loved to sail, first as a teenager in Holland and later on Lake Winnipesaukee. He enjoyed listening to classical music and reading about world history and cultures, deepened by his familiarity with half a dozen languages.
