Dover man indicted in Sept. hit-and-run death of retired Hudson police sergeant

BRENTWOOD - A Dover man has been indicted by a Rockingham County grand jury in a hit-and-run accident that killed a retired Hudson police sergeant in September.
Craig Sprowl, 45, is accused of felony negligent homicide and conduct after an accident in the death of Donna Briggs, 59, of Derry, a retired sergeant who had been biking in Kingston on Sept. 21 as she trained for an upcoming police ride when she was allegedly struck by Sprowl.
Police say they began looking for Briggs around 8:30 p.m. and found her while searching the area along Route 125 southbound near New Boston Road, where they found the bicycle and the rider down an embankment off the shoulder. Briggs was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say Briggs was struck from behind.
Video from nearby businesses and other footage helped to identify the vehicle leaving the scene. It had taken damage to the front passenger side.
The crash occurred around 11:35 a.m. police say.
Sprowl was arrested at a Portsmouth hotel, where his wife, Angela Sprowl, 30, was also arrested on a charge of hindering a police investigation.
An indictment is not an indication of guilt, rather that a grand jury has gathered enough evidence to move forward to trial.
