ROCHESTER - Dorothy Celia Betts, 102, of Rochester, N.H., died Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at The Studley Home for Assisted Living. Born in Middleboro, Mass., the oldest daughter of Charles and Mary Duffany, a large and loving family of eight children.
She was the widow of Robert Betts, Sr., and mother of Peter M. Betts of Barrington and, now deceased, Robert Betts, Jr., of Dover. She also leaves her daughter-in-law Mildred (Judy) Betts of Rochester and sister-in-law Margaret (Peggy) Duffany of East Falmouth, Mass. Dorothy was a very loving Gramma to her nine grandchildren, Glenn M. Betts of Dover, Greggory F. Betts of Rochester, Michelle C. Register and husband Joseph of Dover, Dianne P. Betts of Rollinsford, Geoffrey C. Betts of Rochester, Jennifer M. McLaughlin and husband Thomas of Rochester, Marianne C. Campbell of Farmington, Jennifer A. Martin and husband Jason of Dover, and Michael D. Betts of Honolulu, H.I . She was also very proud of her 22 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews on Cape Cod.
For many years Dorothy resided in Falmouth, Mass., where her husband owned The Falmouth Auto Body. She was active in many local groups, most notably 32 years with the Daughters of Isabella, Professional Women's Organization, Friends of the Library, St. Patrick's Church choir and the Alter Society. Dorothy was a well-known and respected seamstress. In New Hampshire she worked at the Handkerchief Shop in Exeter, treasurer of The Niles Park Assoc., Chaplain of Cocheco Grange, and member of the Dover Dollies Red Hats.
Dot will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her. She was loving, devoted and will be in our hearts forever. We will often smile as we think of the good and kind example she set for us all and the endless memories created as she welcomed one and all in to her heart and home.
