Detectives continue to probe tragic Christmas death of three-year-old girl

EDGECOMB, Maine - The Christmas Day death of a three-year-old Edgecomb girl has been ruled a homicide by the state Office of Chief Medical Examiner.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Makinzlee Handrahan, who was reported not breathing around 7:37 a.m. on Sunday via a Lincoln County Communications Center 911 call.

Rescue personnel and Deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department responded to the residence which was located on Route 1, and the child was transported to Miles Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit was contacted which is protocol in all child deaths in Maine. Detectives and Evidence Response Technicians responded and worked late into the night and all-day Monday.

More info will be released as it becomes available, safety officials say.
