ROCHESTER - Dennis Duchesneau, devoted husband, adoring father and beloved pepere, died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Oct. 28, 2024. Dennis was born on Jan. 12, 1947, in Rochester, to Robert and Angela (Ferland) Duchesneau.
He is predeceased by his high school sweetheart and wife of 56 years, Bernadette Duchesneau and their daughter Lisa as well as her husband Scott Reid. He is survived by his daughter Michelle Whelan and her husband James Arthur Whelan as well as his grandchildren Brandon Reid and his wife Chelsea, Tyler Reid and Leah Whelan and two great grandchildren, Theodore and Addison Reid.
He also leaves behind his golden retriever Jake, .
Dennis graduated from Holy Rosary High School in Rochester and belonged to the Graniteers Drum and Bugle corps with whom he traveled around the country and made numerous lifelong friends.
After graduation, Dennis joined the Army where he was deployed to South Korea and Europe attaining the rank of Specialist 5. Once his army service ended he worked at the Rochester Police Department where he retired at the rank of Captain after 20 years. Dennis wasn't one to sit around so he eventually returned to the Rochester Police Department on a part-time basis. He worked on payroll, budgets, grants and eventually IT. He played a major role in moving them from handwritten and typewritten reports, into the computer age. Eventually retiring for good after an additional 22 years.
Dennis was a devoted family man who spent nearly all of his free time surrounding his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with unconditional love. He enjoyed taking his family on vacations to Disney World, numerous camping trips and weekend outings. When he wasn't spending time with family, Dennis could often be found enjoying the company of his numerous lifelong friends where they would pass the time playing cards and telling stories.
