CANDIA - A Deerfield man was seriously hurt after an early morning rollover crash Tuesday on Route 101.

The accident occurred around shortly before 1 a.m. at the Exit 3 onramp along Route 101 westbound in Candiawhere arriving troopers found a vehicle down an embankment on the right side of the onramp. Troopers were able to get down to the vehicle, where they found the driver had been thrown from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries.

The preliminary investigation determined a 2006 Honda Element, driven by Matthew C. Cresswell, 41, of Deerfield, had been traveling on the onramp toward Route 101 westbound when, for reasons that remain under investigation, Cresswell lost control of the Honda, resulting in the Honda veering off the right side of the road, traveling down an embankment and overturning multiple times before eventually striking a tree, ultimately coming to rest in an upright position about 30 feet from the onramp.

Cresswell was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

While Troopers investigated the scene and emergency personnel conducted an extensive effort to remove the involved Honda, part of the Exit 3 onramp was impacted for approximately three hours before the scene was cleared around 4 a.m.

All aspects of the crash remain under investigation by Trooper Jacob Benjamin of the Troop A barracks. Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Benjamin via email at Jacob.A.Benjamin@DOS.NH.GOV.
