CONCORD - Saturday saw the DHHS announcement of 74 new positive COVID-19 test results, five more deaths and 11 new hospitalizations, but another metric that is a beacon of hope also emerged: Current hospitalizations are at their lowest rate since mid-April.
On Saturday that number stood at 84. It peaked on May 13 at 126, showing a drop in hospitalizations since then of roughly 30 percent. The last time it was this low was on April 20 when then-current hospitalizations stood at 78.
Health officials have said all along that the biggest threat the virus posed was its potential to overwhelm our health system.
Gov. Chris Sununu has also suggested that as long as its impact on our health facilities continues to wane, the reopening of New Hampshire will continue.
However, it was still a day of sadness for five New Hampshire families as five more deaths were recorded, all from Hillsborough County and all 60 or over. There were also 11 new hospitalized cases.
Current local cases include 18 in Rochester, 10 in Dover, five in Barrington and 1-4 in Somersworth, Farmington, Strafford and Milton.
