BERWCK, Maine - Court documents filed in the fatal shooting of a Berwick man suggest that there could be another suspect in addition to the Rochester man arrested on murder charges Friday.

Daniel Lafrenier, 31, of Rochester, N.H., no street address given, was taken into custody by York Police after they responded to a York Road residence for a report of a break-in and found Lafrenier attempting to gain entry into the house.

Lafrenier was taken to the York Police Department where he was charged in the shooting death of a Mark Forest, 37, who died Thursday after being shot at his Katabel Lane home.

According to a press release sent out Friday by the Maine Dept. of Safety, Berwick Police responded to the residence around 8 a.m. for a report of a male with a gunshot wound to the head.

Forest was taken to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. An autopsy conducted on Friday found the death to be a homicide.

Lafrenier was transported to the York County Jail where he remains held on no bail, jail personnel said today.

The court document that indicates there could be an additional suspect asks the court to seal the affidavit to protect the names of individuals who were interviewed by police.

Lafrenier has had several local brushes with the law including being a fugitive from justice and several felony convictions.

Meanwhile, a Go Fund Me page to help Forest's family pay for final expenses has been set up. Click here to donate.
