ROCHESTER - "Thank a Rochester Cop" day just got some artwork thanks to Rochester elementary school students who did their part to show appreciation for the work police do day in and day out.

The students joined in a contest organized by the Spaulding High School Art Department, with the winning pieces soon to be used to promote September's "Thank a Rochester Cop campaign."

The Spaulding High School Art Department, known for painting annual messages and images of police appreciation on downtown windows, extended its efforts this year to include the younger artists.

"The Thank a Rochester Cop Committee is excited to support this poster contest to include Rochester's elementary students in showing appreciation for our officers," said Sheena Downs, Co-Chair of Thank a Rochester Cop. "Thank you, SAU 54 Elementary art teachers for assisting in this project. It's wonderful to see connections grow in our community, especially between our children and police officers."

Six winners were selected from the dozens of entries received. All winners were presented with gift certificates to local businesses.
