City woman cited after car snaps telephone pole

A Rochester woman was cited for negligent driving after the car she was driving struck a telephone pole on Old Dover Road on Saturday.

Police got the call around 5:20 a.m. and responded to the area of 10 Old Dover Road where they said a vehicle driven by Betsy Elliott, of 9 South Blueberry Lane, Rochester, left the paved portion of the roadway and struck a telephone pole. Elliott said she drove off the road to avoid striking an animal. The telephone pole snapped in half causing wires to cross both lanes of travel closing the road.

The road was shut down during the investigation and for a short period after until a new telephone pole was put into place. The vehicle sustained heavy front end damage and was towed from the scene

As a result of the investigation, Elliott was issued summonses for failure to obey inspection requirements and negligent driving. Elliott was given a court date in August at the 7th Circuit – Rochester District Court.
