City teen seriously injured in pedestrian accident on Wakefield Street

ROCHESTER -- A Rochester teenager was struck by a car and seriously injured on Election Day while walking on Wakefield Street in the area of Yeagley Way.
Police say the accident occurred around 3:30 p.m., and verified that the driver of the vehicle waited at the scene for police to arrive.
The female victim was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with what were described as serious injuries.
The accident caused a traffic jam near the James W. Foley Memorial Community Center where a record turnout was being seen among Ward 5 voters.
The Rochester Voice was unable to confirm the condition of the victim because her name has not been released.
The county's accident reconstruction team was called in to investigate.
