ROCHESTER - Police say a Rochester man resting inside a COAST bus stop was injured on Sunday when an impaired driver veered off Wakefield Street and crashed into the bus stop enclosure outside the city's Community Center.
The incident occurred a little after 8 p.m. when a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Elizabeth Laroche, 22, of Strafford, crashed into the enclosure, injuring a male, according to police.
Initial investigation indicated the Jeep was traveling south on Wakefield Street before crashing.
Timothy Umling, 60, of Rochester, was conscious and alert but had apparent minor injuries, police say. He was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital to be evaluated. Laroche was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.
Due to the unknown status of Umling's evaluation, the Strafford County Regional Technical Accident Reconstruction Team was called in to assist with the accident investigation.
As a result of the preliminary investigation, Laroche was arrested for driving under the influence, reckless operation and use of electronic mobile devices while driving.
Laroche was released pending a court date next month.
