ROCHESTER - The Rochester City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to place a Sports Betting question on the Nov. 7 municipal ballot.
A public hearing on the question will be held on Oct. 17 prior to a City Council workshop that will also hold discussions on all aspects regarding a potential charitable gaming entity within the city.
During the 2019 municipal elections a Sports Begging question narrowly failed, 1,488-1,439.
DraftKings Sportsbook has since been contracted by the Lottery Commission to manage both the online and retail sports wagering operations throughout the state.
By state statute, no more than10 retail sports wagering locations are allowed throughout the state.
The City Council recently passed a "Charitable Gaming Facility" ordinance paving the way for a second vote by Rochester residents.
Rochester's ordinance requires the sports betting facility be established within a Charitable Gaming entity.
