ROCHESTER - State Police are on the lookout today for a man and woman who stole a car in Dover on Friday and managed to escape a high-speed chase as well as a helicopter and K9 search in Milton.
The incident unfolded when a State Police Trooper attempted to stop a vehicle speeding over 80 mph on Route 16 northbound in Rochester around 10:35 a.m. May 29.
Before he could stop them the driver made an abrupt turn onto the Exit 15 off-ramp, and the trooper lost sight of the car.
Moments later State Police Trooper Daniel Peete saw the same vehicle, a 2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse, and attempted a motor vehicle stop, but the driver continued north on Route 16, accelerating to speeds over 115 mph. State police said the pursuit was immediately terminated due to safety concerns.
A description of the car was broadcast to area police departments and a short time later it was determined the car had been stolen out of Dover.
Then around 11:10 a.m., a Milton police officer found the vehicle in a wooded trail at the end of Ashwood Road.
State Police said residents in the area reported seeing a man and woman running through their back yards.
A State Police helicopter and a pair of K9 units assisted in a search but the suspects were able to get away.
An investigation into the identity of both individuals involved is ongoing.
Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to call Trooper Peete at (603) 223-8490 or email at daniel.peete@dos.nh.gov.
