ROCHESTER - The superintendent of Rochester Schools said on Monday that no bus driver walkout is expected today or anytime soon.

"We do not anticipate this occurring," said Rochester Schools Supt. Annie Azarloza. "First Student's next union negotiation meeting is scheduled for Sept. 11 and, according to First Student, the drivers have said they do not plan to strike before then."
First Student's 700 bus drivers, who are members of Teamsters Local 633, have been threatening to strike over pension issues.
Between now and Sept. 11, however, there is a possibility for both resolution or an unexpected walkout.
"The company looks forward to working with Local 633 leadership and its employee committee to reach an agreement that truly benefits employees," First Student released in a statement. "First Student wants to avoid the disruptive strike the union is threatening, It will only harm employees and their families, and school districts and students across New Hampshire."
Other school district affected by a potential strike include Derry, Nashua, North Hampton and Plaistow.
Rochester schools began their official academic year today.
