MILTON - A downtown eyesore that has fallen into severe disrepair may finally face demolition if two brothers can't convince the town they have plans to make it safe.
Milton Code Enforcement Officer Brian Boyers updated selectmen earlier this week on the status of the dilapidated garage/barn behind the dwelling just south of Cumberland Farms.
Boyers said two brothers whose mother died leaving the house in probate have plans to remove the second floor and make the first floor habitable.
He said they are hoping to get a reprieve from the city's decision to tear it down as they look for financing to complete the renovations.

Boyers said on Wednesday the building is considered a hazard to the public under state statute and added the town will take them to court if they have to.
He said he was giving the brothers till the end of the week to produce a letter for selectmen asking for more time.
The building is currently posted "No Trespassing."
Boyers said the brother came in on July 5 and were asking for 30 to 40 more days to complete the project to the town's satisfaction.
A woman at the residence in front of the barn who didn't want to be identified said Boyers and the town would have the letter today detailing their plans for the building and asking for more time.
She said a portion of the building that connects the house to the barn would also be renovated and made safe.
