KITTERY, Maine- A Boston man was hurt after his box truck rear-ended a fully loaded cement truck today near mile marker 1 of the Maine Turnpike in Kittery.
The collision occurred around 8:05 a.m., when the box truck, operated by 22-year-old Manuel Depina-Gonolves of Boston, was traveling southbound and struck the cement truck.
Depina-Gonolves was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated, according to a press release sent out from Dept. of Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
Depina-Gonolves suffered severe but non-life-threatening injuries in the crash while the driver of the cement truck, 59-year-old Peter Macdonald of South Berwick, was uninjured.
One southbound lane was shut down to traffic so Troopers with the Commercial Vehicles Unit could inspect the vehicles and Troopers from Troop G could document the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates speed and following to close were factors in the crash. The lane has since been reopened to traffic, police say.
